A HAPPY BODY IS FIT, PAIN-FREE AND STRESS FREE PART I

”Body movement has a language all its own” Bonnie Prudden.

Some body movements are conscious and others are unconscious. What does your body tell others?  When your loved one comes through the door at 4:00 pm you know before you even see them whether they got the job or lost the job, got the guy or lost the guy, failed the test or aced the test, lost the game or won the game. Footfalls, door closures and voice tell.

And then there is the body language most telling even if the others are silent. It helps not only to be able to read body language but to know what your own body is telling others.  The master of body watching was prolific author and zoologist Desmond Morris who wrote the infamous books The Naked Ape and Bodywatching: A Field Guide to the Human Species.

THE FIT BODY                                                                                             The fit body is a happy confident body.

Before you try out for the play, meet the new guy or gal, or show up for the interview you’d better check your own body language. A mirror helps.

The fit body exudes happiness.  It is full of energy. It is alert and sensitive to the needs of others. Is this you?  If so, happy hunting!  If not, the first stop on your roadmap is below.

MINIMUM FITNESS

The KEY POSTURE muscles for minimum fitness are those that hold you up and carry you around all day. If they are not in good shape you will be tired, your posture suffers, and your breathing suffers as does your self-image. The photos show you how to test these muscles.  This test applies to everyone because it is self-correlating. It tests your strength against your own body weight and size.  As long as you walk you must manage your weight and height with your key posture muscles.

The muscles tested for minimum strength are the abdominals, psoas, upper back, lower back and for flexibility the back and hamstrings. If you pass, put on a happy face and then go on to build your strength and flexibility beyond minimum. If not you will need to do the corrective exercises to bring you up to minimum. Below are some links to help you along.

Why do we need to be fit? To enjoy life, to have the energy to do extra things, to help our neighbors, to serve our country, to get through emergencies.   Keep Fit-Be Happy!
