WALK, RUN, WALK: PREPARE FOR PLAYTIME
Long before the run walk run method was popularized by Olympian Jeff Galloway in the 1970s Bonnie Prudden was using it in her workshops and writing about in her 1963 best seller book How to Keep Slender and Fit After Thirty and later in her Exer-sex book in 1979.

VACATION: EMPTY, TO HAVE TIME TO BE FREE, TO GET AWAY FROM Bonnie suggests that one of the foolish approaches to a vacation is called the last minute approach. This is where you work frantically up until the last minute and then are too tired to enjoy your time off.
To enjoy your playtime and get the most out of it (after all you’ve waited and saved for months) Bonnie recommends you prepare by planning a slowdown in your work schedule and an up in your exercise time two weeks prior to the start of your vacation leave time.
If you are a TV watcher you can use the commercial time, instead of going to the fridge, for your mini workouts which can include running in place. Since the floor offers no variety you must offer your muscles the variety by varying your running pattern. Muscles love variety and will thank you for caring for them. See the MINI-Minute workout below and video clip here.
If you have the advantage of the outdoors start by jogging 25 steps and then walking 50 steps. Count only those made by the right foot. Alternate walking and running. As the days pass leading up to your vacation time increase the running steps and decrease the walking steps as feels comfortable.
Keep in mind that wherever your vacation takes you that when you return to home and work that you want to not only look better but feel better too. So while lying in the sun will give you a wonderful tan look it will not improve your endurance, muscles and outlook. Be the beach walker and runner and make sure you are barefoot which will use all the muscles in your feet and help give you an added spring to your gait. Remember, walking is a priceless gift…the ability to get up and go somewhere. Treasure it.
