I WAS ONE OF the lucky ones. Born in 1938, I had the run of the yard, the adjoining woods, no TV, and no processed food. The vegetable garden was our market, the library our source for books, the drugstore for an occasional ice-cream, and for transportation: our legs! Without knowing it I built my body when it counted between birth and six just by living in that era.
Now at 85 what do I expect at my age?
Had I not met Bonnie Prudden when I was 33 I don’t think I would be answering this way. Her program of fitness and Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy has allowed me to live fit and pain free, and I’ve never stopped moving.
Now people exclaim “You don’t look 85.” And my answer is “How am I supposed to look?” “It is not how you look but how you move.” You can buy an up-to-date face in a few hours. To bring your body up to date takes time. Most people at age 85 are not able to move as I do, either because they hurt or they stopped moving. They tend to fall victim to myths of aging foisted upon them and invented by “ experts”.
“It is pain that ages us, not years.”
Bonnie Prudden’s After Fifty Fitness Guide debunks the aging myths and sets you on a path to maintain, repair, tune up, take charge of your body, your mind, and your sprit so that you feel great every single day.
Everyone can improve and be better than they are right now. No matter when you were born or what your life has been like it is time to put the past behind you, take stock, begin to destroy the myths, and rewind your body clock.
“You can’t turn back the clock but you can wind it up again.”
Your life is a mess? When you are fit and pain free it is much easier to clean up your messy life, leave the bed you are lying in, and move on. No, you won’t be able to do it all at once but the step by step approach in Bonnie’s book makes it doable.
Most everyone has some kind of a mess in their life, but most of time we only know our own mess. One of the major contributors to the mess is STRESS. Very seldom is there chronic pain without stress. Old injuries, the weak link, all of a sudden pop up and leave us thinking we are getting old. The program set out in the book shows you how to get pain free and fit so that you can take charge and better handle that stress.
So what do I expect at my age? And what should you expect at your age?
Expect to be fit and pain free and then go about devising a plan to make it happen! It is never too late to start or restart your fitness program. Take the first step. Turn on the music! “Music reaches past the here and now and carries people to other places and other times.” It will lift your spirit and set a joyous beat for your exercise.
